Northern Kerala Trails
Kerala, often referred to as "God’s Own Country," is a serene and scenic state in southern India known for its lush greenery, tranquil backwaters, and rich cultural heritage. From the misty hills of Munnar to the palm-fringed shores of Alleppey, every corner of Kerala offers a unique charm. The state is famous for its Ayurvedic treatments, classical dance forms like Kathakali, and vibrant festivals such as Onam. Cruising through the backwaters in a traditional houseboat is a must-do experience for visitors. Kerala is also home to exotic wildlife sanctuaries, spice plantations, and flavorful cuisine rich in coconut and spices. With its harmonious blend of nature, tradition, and modernity, Kerala is a true paradise for travelers.

Upon your arrival at Calicut Airport or railway station, a warm welcome awaits before you are escorted to your hotel for check-in. Settle into your room and take a little time to unwind after your journey, enjoying the comfort of your stay.
Later in the day, embark on a tour of Calicut, a city steeped in history and known for its prominence in the ancient spice trade. Begin with a visit to Kappad Beach, the legendary site where Vasco da Gama first landed in 1498, opening a new chapter in world trade. Then, make your way to Mananchira Square, a charming landmark surrounded by heritage structures, landscaped lawns, and serene water features.
As dusk approaches, stroll through the bustling SM Street, renowned for its vibrant shops and local specialties. Here you can shop for spices, textiles, and handicrafts while indulging in the city’s signature delicacy the delectable Calicut Halwa.
Conclude your day with a delicious dinner at the hotel before retiring for a peaceful overnight stay in Calicut, preparing for the journey ahead.
Overnight at Calicut Hotel.
After enjoying a hearty breakfast, check out from your hotel and set off on a picturesque drive through winding country roads and verdant landscapes to reach Wayanad, a charming hill station nestled in the Western Ghats. This tranquil destination is famed for its mist-covered hills, lush spice plantations, cascading waterfalls, and rich wildlife.
On arrival, complete your check-in at the resort and take some time to relax, soaking in the serenity of nature all around. Later in the afternoon, head out to explore one of Wayanad’s most intriguing attractions the Edakkal Caves. These ancient rock shelters are adorned with fascinating prehistoric carvings that speak of civilizations from thousands of years ago.
Continue your journey to the serene Pookode Lake, surrounded by evergreen forests and hills. Here, you can enjoy a peaceful boat ride on the calm waters, a perfect way to take in the natural beauty of the region.
As evening falls, return to your resort, where a warm dinner awaits. End your day with a restful overnight stay in Wayanad, embraced by the soothing sounds of nature.
Overnight at Wayanad Hotel.
Wake up to the crisp and refreshing mountain breeze of Wayanad, and begin your day with a wholesome breakfast prepared with local flavors. The serene surroundings and the aroma of nature itself set the perfect tone for a day filled with adventure and discovery.
Your first stop for the day will be the breathtaking Soochipara Waterfalls, a three-tiered cascade nestled amidst dense forests. Here, you can spend time marveling at the roaring waters as they plunge into a clear natural pool below, making it an ideal spot for photography and quiet moments of reflection in the lap of nature.
As the day progresses, set out on an exciting jungle safari at either Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary or Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, depending on availability. These pristine sanctuaries are home to diverse flora and fauna, offering you a chance to witness elephants wandering in herds, graceful spotted deer grazing in the wild, and, with a stroke of luck, even catch a glimpse of elusive big cats like tigers or leopards. The safari experience gives you an authentic taste of Wayanad’s wilderness.
In the evening, return to your resort, where the mist gently settles over the hills and the air grows cooler and calmer. Spend some time unwinding, perhaps by strolling around the property or simply enjoying the natural beauty that surrounds you. End your day with a warm and peaceful dinner, soaking in the tranquility of Wayanad, before retreating to your room for a restful night’s sleep.
Overnight at Wayanad Hotel.
After a hearty breakfast, bid farewell to the serene landscapes of Wayanad and begin your journey towards Ooty, often celebrated as the “Queen of Hill Stations.” The drive itself is a memorable experience as you pass through lush forested roads, winding mountain ghats, and picturesque valleys, each turn revealing new vistas of natural beauty. On arrival in Ooty, check into your cozy hotel or resort, where you can take some time to relax and soak in the pleasant mountain atmosphere.
In the afternoon, set out to explore the renowned Ooty Botanical Gardens, a beautifully landscaped expanse filled with rare orchids, exotic plants, and centuries-old trees. A leisurely walk through the vibrant floral displays and manicured lawns makes for a refreshing experience, offering countless opportunities for photographs and quiet moments amidst nature.
As the day winds down, head towards Ooty Lake, where you can enjoy a peaceful stroll along the banks or opt for a delightful boat ride surrounded by rolling hills and greenery. The cool evening breeze adds to the charm of this romantic setting.
Later, return to your hotel for a delicious dinner and unwind with a comfortable overnight stay, preparing for another day of exploration in this enchanting hill station.

Travel Tips

Best Time to Visit:
The ideal time is October to March for pleasant weather. June to September is the monsoon season — great for Ayurvedic treatments and lush greenery, but expect heavy rains.
Carry Light Cotton Clothes:
Kerala is generally warm and humid. Pack light cotton clothes, comfortable footwear, sunscreen, and sunglasses.
Stay Hydrated & Eat Wisely:
Drink only bottled water (check the seal).Try authentic Kerala cuisine, but be cautious with spicy or street food if you’re not used to it.
Respect Local Culture:
Dress modestly, especially when visiting temples. Remove footwear before entering any place of worship.
Houseboat Etiquette:
If cruising in Alleppey or Kumarakom, carry mosquito repellent and clarify if air conditioning will be provided during the night.
Wildlife and Plantation Tours:
For Periyar or Munnar plantation visits, wear sturdy shoes and carry rain gear if visiting during the rainy season.
Connectivity & Language:
English is widely understood, but learning a few Malayalam phrases can go a long way. Internet is available but may be patchy in remote areas.
Transport & Local Travel:
Hiring a private cab with a local driver is convenient for inter-city travel. Auto-rickshaws are good for short distances, but always negotiate fares.
Cash & ATMs:
While UPI and cards work in cities, carry some cash for remote areas and small vendors.
Ayurvedic Treatments:
Only opt for certified and reputed Ayurvedic centres for authentic therapies.
