Kerela’s Gem
Kerala, often referred to as "God’s Own Country," is a serene and scenic state in southern India known for its lush greenery, tranquil backwaters, and rich cultural heritage. From the misty hills of Munnar to the palm-fringed shores of Alleppey, every corner of Kerala offers a unique charm. The state is famous for its Ayurvedic treatments, classical dance forms like Kathakali, and vibrant festivals such as Onam. Cruising through the backwaters in a traditional houseboat is a must-do experience for visitors. Kerala is also home to exotic wildlife sanctuaries, spice plantations, and flavorful cuisine rich in coconut and spices. With its harmonious blend of nature, tradition, and modernity, Kerala is a true paradise for travelers.

As you arrive at Trivandrum Airport or Railway Station, a warm and gracious reception awaits you from our representative, marking the beginning of your enchanting journey. Feel the gentle breeze of Kerala as you set off on a scenic drive to Kovalam, a serene coastal retreat renowned worldwide for its crescent-shaped beaches, swaying palms, and tranquil waters that sparkle under the tropical sun.
Upon reaching Kovalam, check in to your carefully chosen beachside hotel or resort, where the soothing sound of waves becomes your constant companion. Take some time to freshen up and relax, allowing yourself to ease into the laid-back charm of this seaside haven.
The rest of the day is yours to spend at leisure. You might choose to wander along the golden sands of Lighthouse Beach, bask in the calm beauty of Hawa Beach, or find solitude at the less-crowded Samudra Beach. Each beach offers its own unique charm and rhythm, perfect for a gentle introduction to Kerala’s coastal allure.
To enhance your experience, immerse yourself in the timeless tradition of an Ayurvedic massage—a rejuvenating therapy that relaxes the body, calms the mind, and refreshes the spirit.
As evening descends, make your way to the shore to witness the breathtaking sight of the sun dipping below the horizon, painting the Arabian Sea in hues of orange, pink, and gold. This mesmerizing sunset marks not only the close of your first day but also a poetic beginning to your unforgettable Kerala journey.
Overnight at Kovalam Hotel.
After savoring a wholesome breakfast at your hotel, complete your check-out formalities and set out on a scenic journey towards Kumarakom, a jewel of Kerala nestled on the banks of the serene Vembanad Lake, the largest freshwater lake in the state. The drive itself is an experience, taking you through a patchwork of lush green paddy fields, winding roads lined with coconut palms, and charming villages where you can catch glimpses of Kerala’s authentic rural lifestyle.
Upon arrival in Kumarakom, you will be welcomed into your lakeside resort or boutique backwater retreat, where the tranquil setting and soothing ambiance instantly transport you into a world of peace and relaxation. Take some time to settle in, freshen up, and let the calmness of the surroundings embrace you.
The evening is at leisure, offering you the freedom to immerse yourself in Kumarakom’s unique charm in your own way. For those seeking an unforgettable experience, embark on a private houseboat cruise through the labyrinth of canals. Glide along the still waters fringed with swaying coconut palms, watch fishermen casting their nets, and witness village life unfolding along the shores. As the sun begins its descent, the lake glows with golden and crimson hues, creating a magical setting to enjoy a freshly prepared Kerala-style dinner on board.
Alternatively, if you prefer to unwind within the serene comforts of your resort, simply sit back with a cup of traditional Kerala tea and admire the mesmerizing views of Vembanad Lake, where the gentle ripples and soothing breeze will leave you with a sense of absolute serenity.
Overnight at Kumarakom Hotel.
After enjoying a wholesome breakfast at your hotel, set out on a scenic drive towards Thekkady – a land celebrated for its spices, wildlife, and pristine natural beauty. The journey, which takes around 4 to 5 hours, is a treat in itself as the road meanders through mist-clad hills, dense forests, aromatic cardamom estates, and charming little hamlets where life moves at a gentle pace. Every turn of the road presents postcard-perfect landscapes that showcase the essence of Kerala’s countryside.
On reaching Thekkady, check in to your resort or hotel, where warm hospitality and the refreshing embrace of nature await you. Take a moment to unwind, breathe in the cool mountain air, and immerse yourself in the tranquil surroundings of this lush destination.
Later in the day, proceed to the world-renowned Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, a haven for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts. The highlight of your visit is the serene boat ride on Periyar Lake, where the calm waters reflect the surrounding greenery. As your boat glides along, keep your eyes open for fascinating sights of elephants grazing by the lakeside, herds of sambar deer, wild boars, and an incredible variety of bird species fluttering about. This close encounter with the wilderness creates an experience you will cherish forever.
Since the boat safari is one of the most sought-after activities here, it is advisable to reserve your tickets in advance through www.periyartigerreserve.org or ktdc-boating.com to avoid last-minute disappointments.
As evening falls, return to your resort for a delicious dinner. Let the serenity of the forest envelop you as you relax and prepare for the night. Fall asleep to the gentle symphony of chirping crickets and rustling leaves, spending a peaceful overnight stay in the heart of Thekkady.
Overnight at Thekkady Hotel.
Begin your morning with a wholesome and hearty breakfast at your hotel, fueling yourself for a day filled with unique experiences.
Set off for a guided exploration of a traditional spice plantation, where nature’s treasures await. Stroll through the lush green estates as expert guides share fascinating insights into the cultivation, harvesting, and processing of Kerala’s prized spices such as cardamom – often called the “Queen of Spices” – along with black pepper, cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg. You may also encounter vibrant coffee shrubs and aromatic tea plantations.
Breathe in the refreshing fragrance that lingers in the air, and take the opportunity to buy fresh, organically grown spices and natural products directly from the plantation’s outlet – a chance to carry a piece of Kerala’s essence back home.
By afternoon, return to town and treat yourself to a delightful lunch at a local restaurant or resort (on your own). Relish a traditional Kerala meal served on banana leaves, complete with an array of curries and accompaniments, or opt for a multi-cuisine spread as per your preference.
Spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure. You may choose to wander through bustling local spice and handicraft markets, where shelves are lined with aromatic oils, handmade soaps, natural cosmetics, and intricately carved wooden artifacts – perfect souvenirs to remember your journey.
Alternatively, retreat to your resort and indulge in a rejuvenating Ayurvedic massage (optional, payable directly), a signature Kerala experience designed to relax your body and refresh your mind.
As evening falls, you may wish to attend a traditional Kathakali performance (optional, with additional cost). This classical dance-drama of Kerala is celebrated for its grand costumes, vibrant face painting, and powerful expressions that bring mythological stories to life. Arrive a little earlier to witness the fascinating makeup session, where the transformation of the artists is as captivating as the performance itself.
Conclude the day with a relaxed dinner at your hotel and retire for an overnight stay, surrounded by the calm and charm of Kerala’s enchanting spice country.
Overnight at Thekkady Hotel.
Start your morning with a hearty breakfast at the hotel, where an inviting spread of South Indian delicacies blends seamlessly with continental favorites—perfect to fuel you for the picturesque journey ahead.

The drive itself is a breathtaking experience, winding through misty highlands, rolling tea-carpeted slopes, and lush valleys that seem to stretch endlessly. Along the way, make memorable halts at Cheeyappara and Valara Waterfalls, where silvery streams cascade over rocky cliffs, framed by dense green forests. Fragrant spice plantations that line the route, filling the air with the invigorating aroma of cardamom, clove, and pepper. Alongside these, enjoy continental options like bread, cereals, eggs, and fresh fruit juices to energize yourself for the day. Head out to your first attraction, Mattupetty Dam and Lake.
Nestled amidst mist-covered hills, sprawling tea gardens, and serene landscapes, this tranquil reservoir is an ideal spot for relaxation. Here you can indulge in leisure boating, choosing between pedal boats or speed boats to glide across the calm waters. Capture postcard-perfect photographs with the backdrop of still waters, rolling hills, and greenery all around. If lucky, you might spot elephants or other wildlife wandering near the water’s edge.

Take a moment to enjoy the cool mountain breeze while gazing at lush valleys draped in green. Browse through street-side stalls offering local snacks, refreshing drinks, and small souvenirs to take back home.
By late morning, make your way to a tea estate, one of Munnar’s iconic highlights. Walk leisurely through the endless stretch of perfectly manicured tea bushes spread like a green carpet across the hills. Proceed for a guided visit to a traditional tea factory to discover the fascinating journey of tea. Learn the art of tea plucking from skilled workers. Understand the processes of withering, rolling, fermenting, and drying the delicate leaves. Get insights into the differences between black, green, and white teas. Conclude your experience with a tea-tasting session and the chance to purchase freshly packed varieties to carry home.
Pause for lunch at a nearby local restaurant or resort (on your own). Choose from authentic Kerala dishes such as spicy fish curry, vegetable thoran, avial, and rice. Alternatively, enjoy simple North Indian meals or continental dishes, depending on your preference.
In the afternoon, continue your journey to Eravikulam National Park, one of the crown jewels of Munnar. Explore this sanctuary, home to the endangered Nilgiri Tahr, a rare species of mountain goat found only in the Western Ghats. Wander through the rolling meadows that offer sweeping panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and hills. From various points in the park, catch glimpses of Anamudi Peak, the highest mountain in South India. Upon arrival, check into your pre-booked hotel. Take a short rest and freshen up before heading out to explore the city.
Begin your sightseeing tour at St. Francis Church, the oldest European church in India. Travel Tips

Best Time to Visit:
The ideal time is October to March for pleasant weather. June to September is the monsoon season — great for Ayurvedic treatments and lush greenery, but expect heavy rains.
Carry Light Cotton Clothes:
Kerala is generally warm and humid. Pack light cotton clothes, comfortable footwear, sunscreen, and sunglasses.
Stay Hydrated & Eat Wisely:
Drink only bottled water (check the seal).Try authentic Kerala cuisine, but be cautious with spicy or street food if you’re not used to it.
Respect Local Culture:
Dress modestly, especially when visiting temples. Remove footwear before entering any place of worship.
Houseboat Etiquette:
If cruising in Alleppey or Kumarakom, carry mosquito repellent and clarify if air conditioning will be provided during the night.
Wildlife and Plantation Tours:
For Periyar or Munnar plantation visits, wear sturdy shoes and carry rain gear if visiting during the rainy season.
Connectivity & Language:
English is widely understood, but learning a few Malayalam phrases can go a long way. Internet is available but may be patchy in remote areas.
Transport & Local Travel:
Hiring a private cab with a local driver is convenient for inter-city travel. Auto-rickshaws are good for short distances, but always negotiate fares.
Cash & ATMs:
While UPI and cards work in cities, carry some cash for remote areas and small vendors.
Ayurvedic Treatments:
Only opt for certified and reputed Ayurvedic centres for authentic therapies.
