Living Traditions of Kerala
Kerala presents an immersive and refined experience for inbound travelers across Kochi, Alleppey, Kumarakom, and Thrissur, where heritage, spirituality, and nature exist in perfect harmony. Kochi welcomes visitors with its legendary spice trade legacy, showcased through historic harbors, colonial-era streets, and aromatic spice markets. The tranquil backwaters of Alleppey and Kumarakom offer an intimate glimpse into Kerala’s slow-paced rural life, with graceful houseboats gliding past coconut groves and waterside villages. Travelers are embraced by authentic backwater living, regional flavors, and heartfelt hospitality shaped by generations. Kerala’s artistic soul is revealed through evocative Kathakali dance performances and the powerful martial traditions of Kalaripayattu. In Thrissur, the cultural heartbeat of the state, grand temple festivals unfold with majestic elephants, resonant percussion, and vibrant rituals. Together, these destinations create a deeply enriching journey that captures the timeless elegance and cultural depth of “God’s Own Country.”

Upon arrival at Cochin International Airport, you are warmly welcomed by your professional English-speaking guide and transferred to your hotel in Kochi. Known historically as the “Queen of the Arabian Sea,” Kochi was once the heart of the global spice trade, attracting Arab, Chinese, and European traders for centuries.
Later in the day, enjoy a guided exploration of Fort Kochi, where colonial influences come alive through Portuguese, Dutch, and British architecture. Visit the iconic Chinese Fishing Nets along the waterfront, St. Francis Church—India’s oldest European church—and the historic Jew Town, home to the beautifully preserved Paradesi Synagogue and spice markets still fragrant with cardamom, pepper, and cloves.
In the evening, experience Kerala’s vibrant cultural heritage with a Kathakali dance performance, where expressive makeup, dramatic gestures, and live music narrate ancient epics. This is followed by a thrilling Kalaripayattu martial arts show, showcasing Kerala’s ancient combat tradition.
Return to your hotel for a relaxing dinner, soaking in the cultural richness of your first day in Kerala.
Overnight at Kochi hotel.
After breakfast at the hotel, check out and travel south towards Alleppey (Alappuzha), often referred to as the “Venice of the East.” Upon arrival, board your traditional private houseboat, offering an immersive introduction to Kerala’s legendary backwater life. As the houseboat gently glides through palm-lined canals, lagoons, and narrow waterways, witness daily village life unfolding along the banks—fishermen casting nets, women washing clothes, children playing, and farmers tending to lush paddy fields below sea level.
Lunch is served onboard as you drift through serene landscapes that perfectly capture the rhythm of rural Kerala. The afternoon is dedicated to leisure, photography, and observing life along the waterways at an unhurried pace.
As dusk falls, the houseboat anchors in a quiet backwater stretch, where you can enjoy the peaceful ambience and reflections of coconut palms shimmering in the water. A freshly prepared traditional Kerala dinner is served onboard, making for a memorable and intimate experience.
Overnight at Alleppey Houseboat.
After breakfast onboard, disembark from the houseboat and proceed towards Kumarakom, a tranquil backwater destination nestled on the banks of Vembanad Lake. Upon arrival, check into your lakeside resort, surrounded by coconut groves and emerald waterways.
Later, enjoy a guided village walk or canoe ride, offering close interaction with local life—traditional homes, coir-making units, and age-old fishing techniques. This intimate experience allows visitors to understand how the backwaters sustain livelihoods and preserve traditions.
In the afternoon, relax at the resort, enjoy the natural surroundings, or opt for wellness experiences inspired by Kerala’s Ayurvedic heritage.
As evening approaches, witness a spectacular sunset over Vembanad Lake, followed by a leisurely dinner at the resort, featuring authentic regional flavors in an elegant setting.
Overnight at Kumarakom hotel.
After breakfast, check out and drive to Thrissur, the cultural capital of Kerala and the spiritual heart of the state. On arrival, check into your hotel before heading out for a guided cultural exploration.
Visit the revered Vadakkunnathan Temple, a UNESCO-recognized heritage site known for its classic Kerala temple architecture, mural paintings, and sacred atmosphere. Thrissur is world-famous for its temple festivals, and depending on the season, you may witness traditional rituals, temple processions, or hear the powerful rhythms of Panchavadyam and Chenda Melam percussion ensembles that define Kerala’s festive spirit.
Your guide will explain the symbolism, customs, and community participation that make these festivals an integral part of Kerala’s identity. Return to your hotel in the evening to relax and enjoy a comforting dinner, reflecting on the spiritual and cultural depth experienced during the day.
Overnight at Thrissur hotel.
After breakfast at the hotel, check out and begin your comfortable drive back to Kochi for your onward journey. As you travel through scenic countryside, this is a final opportunity to absorb Kerala’s landscapes—lush greenery, temple towns, and backwater fringes.
Arrive at Cochin International Airport or railway station in time for your departure, carrying with you unforgettable memories of Kerala’s spice heritage, serene backwaters, vibrant performing arts, and living traditions.

Your stay at Kochi, Alleppey, Kumarakom and Thrissur is at decent 4* hotel, carefully selected for comfort, location, and hospitality. Each hotel offers the perfect base for relaxation after a full day of exploration.
