Malaysian Ringgit (MYR). Carry some cash, especially in Langkawi and rural areas, but cards are widely accepted in cities.

Weather

It’s hot and humid year-round. Pack lightweight, breathable clothing and a raincoat or umbrella—sudden showers are common.

Language

English is widely spoken in tourist areas. Learning a few basic Malay phrases can still be helpful and appreciated.

Connectivity

Get a local SIM card (e.g., Tune Talk, Hotlink, Digi) at the airport for affordable internet and smooth navigation.

Kuala Lumpur Travel Tips

• Use Public Transport: The LRT/MRT systems are reliable and economical. Use Grab (local Uber) for convenience instead of hailing taxis.
• Dress Smartly: While KL is modern and cosmopolitan, modest clothing is still respectful, especially when visiting religious sites like Masjid Negara or Batu Caves.
• Petronas Towers: Go early in the morning or after 7 PM to avoid long queues and get better lighting for photos.
• Foodie Tip: Try Jalan Alor for street food and Lot 10 Hutong for hygienic local eats.

Genting Highlands Travel Tips

• Carry a Light Jacket: It’s noticeably cooler in Genting compared to KL. Temperatures can drop to 15–20°C.
• Casino Visitors: Dress codes apply, and passports are required for entry.
• Weather Watch: Outdoor rides may close during rain, so check the forecast or have an indoor backup plan (like Snow World or Sky Avenue Mall).
