Travel Tips
General Travel Tips

• Plan for a relaxed pace – Spain’s lifestyle is laid-back. Don’t rush your itinerary; allow time to soak in the culture, enjoy long meals, and take siestas!
• Learn basic Spanish phrases – While many people in major cities speak English, in smaller towns, basic Spanish like “Hola” (Hello) or “Gracias” (Thank you) goes a long way.
• Always carry your ID – Keep a copy of your passport with you, especially when using credit cards or checking into hotels.

Cultural & Lifestyle Tips

• Be mindful of siesta hours – Many shops and local businesses close from around 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Plan shopping or errands around that.
• Late meal times – Spaniards eat lunch between 2–3 PM and dinner around 9–10 PM. Make sure to adjust your schedule accordingly.
• Tipping isn’t mandatory – A small tip (5–10%) in restaurants is appreciated but not expected.

Getting Around

• Use public transport – Spain has an excellent network of trains (Renfe), buses, and metro systems in cities like Madrid, Barcelona, and Valencia.
• Consider a rail pass – If you plan to visit multiple cities, a Renfe Spain Pass or Eurail Pass can save time and money.

Safety & Comfort

• Watch out for pickpockets – Especially in tourist hotspots like Las Ramblas in Barcelona or Puerta del Sol in Madrid. Use crossbody bags and keep valuables close.
• Stay hydrated & protect from the sun – Summers can be very hot, particularly in southern cities like Seville and Granada. Wear sunscreen and carry water.

Local Experiences

• Try regional dishes – Sample paella in Valencia, tapas in Seville, and pintxos in the Basque Country. Each region has its own culinary identity.
• Respect local customs and etiquette – Dress modestly when visiting religious sites, and try to blend in with local norms.
